Dental implants may be used to create a strong and sturdy anchor for your dentures. This procedure is known as denture retained implants and it could offer a full restoration that looks and feels more natural. Dental implants placed in the jawbone provide an anchor for your dentures. These can be fixed or removable, giving you complete freedom and control.

Exploring your options for dentures

Dentures can be overwhelming, so we’ll look at the most popular types available to you

Traditional dentures offer a full restoration with a custom prosthesis. An acrylic plate supports the artificial teeth. Denture adhesive is used to keep your artificial teeth in place. This option will restore your bite and smile, but you may need to be careful with hard foods. These dentures are removable, so you can take them out to clean them.

A partial denture is smaller than a full denture and is used to replace a section of teeth on an arch. An acrylic plate and metal clips work to hold the prosthesis in place. This is an ideal option if you are missing a few teeth on an arch and a dental bridge cannot be used to restore function. This is a popular choice with younger patients who may only be missing a few teeth.

An implant-retained denture is a smaller prosthesis that is suitable for full arch restorations. Four dental implants are placed in each arch to create an anchor for the denture. This type of denture may be fixed or removable, giving you complete flexibility. The benefit of implant retained dentures is that the jawbone absorbs the pressure of your bite and this can help to retain facial structure.

If you are losing or have lost your teeth, there are plenty of options to explore for restoration. Book an appointment with Dr. Alex Newman to find out if you’re a suitable candidate for dentures.
