Dental phobias typically start at a young age. Although not recognized as a pediatric dentist by the ADA&C, Dr. Newman has many years of experience treating patients of all ages. Along with his support staff, everyone at Eastport Dental knows how to put children at ease and avoid traumatic dental visits. A trip to the dentist doesn’t have to lead to a meltdown.
If you have a nervous child, get in touch to find out how Dr. Newman can help to put them at ease and help them overcome their fear of the dentist.
All baby teeth should appear by two and a half.
Children should start visiting the dentist within six months of their first teeth appearing. Getting them in early can help to prevent dental phobias as they get older.
What to expect from your first pediatric dental visit…
Taking your child to the dentist doesn’t have to be stressful. Our commitment to family dentistry ensures that we can provide a friendly and welcoming environment for all.
It’s a common misconception that you have to find a registered pediatric dentist for your kids. This isn’t the case, you can take your child to any dentist that offers family dentistry care. Finding a dentist who is great with kids is the first place to start. This will take the stress out of your regular visits.
Dental visits are best scheduled in the morning as your child will be bright and alert. At your child’s first visit, Dr. Newman will carry out a complete examination of the teeth. He will check that your child’s teeth are developing correctly and may ask questions about brushing habits and their typical diet. If treatment is required, Dr. Newman will explain what you and your child can expect. He may also advise exploring orthodontics, particularly as your child gets older.
Education is a big part of going to the dentist. Your child might be more receptive to messages about brushing their teeth and avoiding sugar if they hear it from a dentist. When your child is old enough to brush their teeth, Dr. Newman will revisit this topic often, making sure your child is empowered to take control of their oral health.
